The Arcade Warehouse in Scunthorpe has reopened its doors this week, after expanding its retro and modern offering from two to three dedicated gaming rooms over lockdown.

The Mannaberg Way venue welcomed back players as of 17 May with a collection of 70 different blockbuster machines, all playable for free during each pre-booked session.

“We’ve had a full overhaul during lockdown, and have opened a completely new room full of machines,” owner Caton Airey told The Grimsby Telegraph. “There are five completely new machines and we have replaced 18 with more well-known games like Sega Rally or Daytona.”

“Retro gaming is really popular at the moment, but what people love is how they can play for free for the whole session.”

In line with restrictions, capacity is limited to 35 people per session, ensuring the maintenance of social distancing, with family and group sizes capped at six.

“The basketball hoops and four-player air hockey certainly bring out the competitiveness in people,” said Caton. “It’s great to see mums and dads really getting into it and making those lasting memories with their kids, or friends groups all taking it in turn to see who can win.”

“Our visitors were 50/50 in terms of groups with children and adult-only ones like work outings. It really appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds.”
