Gauselmann UK is leading the charge to keep MPs informed and up to date on the key issues impacting the AGC sector – the Merkur Post represents its’ latest initiative.

Gauselmann UK has broadened its political engagement campaign with the launch of Merkur Post, a digital news digest delivered to its community of constituency MPs as well as political influencers operating at both national and local levels. Merkur Post, which provides an insight on key news and issues impacting the Gauselmann UK business, is being produced on a bi-monthly basis with the first edition distributed to MPs last week.

Tony Boulton, Director of Public and Political Relations at Gauselmann UK, believes Merkur Post complements the company’s existing political engagement initiatives. He stated: “During the last 15-months we have focussed on establishing progressive relationship with MPs who have Merkur venues in their constituencies.

“Pre-Covid, we hosted MPs in-venue when they were able to meet and chat with constituents – both staff and customers – as well as sample the unique Merkur customer experience firsthand. For the last year we have continued the programme via Zoom which has enabled us to connect with a larger number of our elected representatives, albeit remotely.

“From our experience, what’s abundantly clear is that the industry needs to focus on the basics, explaining what we do, quantifying what we contribute to the high street and showing who are customers are. We’ve found there’s still a lot of confusion about the business and how the AGC offer differs from those of Betting Shops, FECs and even Casinos. The twin tasks are to firstly inform our politicians and from there improve their perceptions of the industry. Both of these require a lot of hard work and the launch of Merkur Post is part of the process of improving awareness and understanding of our business.”
