Blackpool Pleasure Beach invites visitors to “Walk the Woodie”

Visitors to Blackpool Pleasure Beach are being offered the opportunity to “Walk the Woodie,” a unique experience which allows guests to walk the track of the attraction’s iconic 80-year old wooden roller coaster.

Groups of up to four will be able to don protective gear and climb to the top of the Nickelodeon Streak, and follows the success of the park’s organised walk on sister coaster the Big One.

“The Nickelodeon Streak, our classic wooden roller coaster, has been thrilling guests since 1933, formally under its previous name but more recently in its distinctive orange guise,” said a park spokesperson.

“If you like adventure and want an exhilarating experience that gives a unique insight into how a wooden roller coaster is maintained – with some great photo opportunities along the way – then this is the experience for you.”

The walk lasts 90 minutes, with climbers equipped for the circuit with harnesses, helmets and protective equipment, as well as a warning about the climb.

“The walk is a physically demanding activity including steep climbs, drops, heights and the surface can be uneven, dirty and slippery,” added the spokesperson.

“Exposed nails and both rough and sharp edges are part of the nature of a wooden roller coaster structure.”
