The “traffic light” system developed by Germany’s Gauselmann Group to regulate the flow of visitors in arcades is being successfully implemented in retail.

The C traffic light was launched in spring of 2020, but since last December has been gradually and successfully rolled out in shops in Sweden with over 200 of the systems delivered.

“In Sweden, shops are allowed to stay open, provided that they meet certain legal requirements,” said Jendrik Volkmann, product manager at Gauselmann. “There is a demand for the increased use of access systems and higher requirements. The C traffic light has been most successful in meeting these standards.”

The system measures visitor flow using infrared sensor technology and has two phases; green permits more people to enter, while red indicates that the maximum number has been reached and if it is exceeded a warning signal sounds.

The visitor number is set on individual systems through radio remote control.

It is now possible to network two C traffic light systems, which is useful when a store has several entrances.
